  62.   The Tseng ET4000 device driver provides seamless
  63.   support for accelerated display graphics and advanced
  64.   color resolutions when used with the minimum required
  65.   video memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit flat
  66.   memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  67.   Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  68.   the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.  This driver has
  69.   been enabled for use with the IBM* Display Console
  70.   Access Facility (DCAF) product.

  149.   OS/2 2.1 and higher.  Do not install it on previous
  150.   versions of OS/2.

  153.   PRELIMINARY STEPS
  154.   _________________

  156.   The following steps prepare your computer for the
  157.   Tseng ET4000 device driver:
  158.  
  159.   1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  160.       to install this driver.
  161.   2.  The OS/2 ATTRIB command is used during
  162.       installation of the device driver.  If you
  163.       elected not to install the OS/2 Optional System
  164.

  169.       Utilities or you have deleted the ATTRIB command,
  170.       use Selective Install and select Change File
  171.       Attributes to restore the ATTRIB command before
  172.       continuing.
  173.   3.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return
  174.       to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  175.       "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  176.       README before you install this driver.

  179.   INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  180.   __________________________
  181.  
  182.   To install the Tseng ET4000 device driver from
  183.   diskette, do the following:
  184.  
  185.   1.  Insert the Tseng ET4000 diskette into drive A (or
  186.       any other diskette drive).
  187.   2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  188.   3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  189.       command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  190.       drive:
  191.  
  192.              A:SETUP A: C:
  193.  
  194.       (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  195.       drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  196.  
  197.       Then press Enter.

  203.   4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  204.       drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  205.       your computer.
  206.   5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  207.   6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  208.   7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.
  209.  
  210.       When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  211.       "Tseng Laboratories ET4000/W32, /W32i, /W32p"
  212.       should be the default choice.  If not, select it.
  213.       Then select OK.
  214.   8.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  215.       window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  216.       Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  217.       accept this choice or select "Install Using
  218.       Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  219.       different refresh rate.  Then select OK.
  220.  
  221.       If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  222.       Utility Program" choice, you must have a DOS
  223.       monitor utility that came with your display
  224.       adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  225.       manufacturer's technical support for information
  226.       on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  227.  
  228.       NOTE:  At this point, DSPINSTL determines the
  229.              hardware configuration by creating the
  230.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file.  If the
  231.

  236.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file has not been
  237.              created, the adapter will not be
  238.              supported.
  239.  
  240.   9.  When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  241.       insert the Tseng ET4000 diskette into drive A.
  242.       Then select Install.
  243.   10. When the installation is complete, do the
  244.       following:
  245.       a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  246.       b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  247.       c.  Open the System object.
  248.       d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  249.           the Screen tab.  Then go to Screen page 2.
  250.       e.  On Screen page 2, select your display from
  251.           the display list.  If your display does not
  252.           appear in the list, select Default.
  253.       f.  Return to Screen page 1 and select a
  254.           resolution and a screen refresh rate.
  255.       g.  Close the Settings notebook.
  256.       h.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.
  257.  
  258.   Note that during the installation of this driver,
  259.   DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  260.   OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  261.   system files that were updated and indicate whether
  262.   the installation was successful.  The contents of
  263.

  268.   these files might be useful if you need to report an
  269.   installation problem to IBM.

  272.   INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT

  275.   NOTES:

  277.   1.  The server must contain a directory named TS_DRVS
  278.       on the same drive where the OS/2 diskettes
  279.       reside.  The TS_DRVS directory must contain all
  280.       of the files from the Tseng ET4000 device driver
  281.       diskette.
  282.   2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  283.       client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  284.       Distribution) method.

  286.   To install the Tseng ET4000 device driver using CID,
  287.   use the following information to modify your LCU

  401.        /PK:SVGA where SVGA is the primary adapter key.
  402.        /SK:NONE where NONE is the secondary adapter key.

  404.        /T:C: where C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  405.        /MC:3 is the manufacturing code that distinguishes Tseng.
  406.        /res:640x480x256 is a resolution/color depth from the
  407.         list of "Supported Resolutions" that appears earlier in
  408.         this README.

  410.   NOTES:
  411.  
  412.   1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  413.       required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  414.       earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  415.       640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  416.       be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  417.       you select a resolution that your display does
  418.       not support.

  424.   2.  After the Tseng ET4000 device driver has been
  425.       successfully installed on the client machine
  426.       using the CID method and the client machine is
  427.       restarted, the resolution will be as specified by
  428.       command line argument.

  431.   FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  432.   _______________________
  433.  
  434.   o   After Dark** for Windows** images that move from
  435.       left to right do not perform properly at
  436.       640x480x16M resolution.
  437.   o   To avoid a general protection fault while loading
  438.       Ventura Publisher** for Windows, be sure it is in
  439.       one of the 256 color resolutions.
  440.   o   To avoid a trap in Lotus*** 1-2-3** for OS/2, do
  441.       not attempt to run the program at 16.7 million
  442.       colors.
  443.   o   WordPerfect** Versions 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows
  444.       produce a general protection fault when the
  445.       "Print Preview" option is selected while using
  446.       800x600x64K or 600x480x16 million color mode.
  447.   o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  448.       MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  449.       256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  450.       users of the feature will experience unusual
  451.       results.  An OS/2 pervasive fix package will be
  452.       available electronically.  The software motion
  453.

  458.       video feature is not supported in 16-million
  459.       color modes.
  460.   o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2*
  461.       window session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  462.       full-screen session.
  463.   o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  464.       WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  465.       WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
  466.   o   Display Console Access Facility (DCAF) is
  467.       supported in 256-color modes only.

  470.   SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  471.   ________________________________
  472.  
  473.   Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  474.  
  475.   NOTE:  If your display is out of sync, start OS/2
  476.          using the OS/2 Installation Diskette, insert
  477.          Diskette 1 when prompted, then press F3 to
  478.          display a command prompt.  Use the following
  479.          instructions to reset your display mode:
  480.  
  481.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  482.       returning to VGA mode has been simplified.  Do
  483.       the following:
  484.  
  485.       1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  486.           already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.

  492.       2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  493.           left-hand corner of your screen, press
  494.           Alt+F1.
  495.       3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  496.           press V.

  498.       Your display adapter is restored and can work in
  499.       VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  500.       adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter
  501.       16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
  502.       OS/2 Warp.
  503.  
  504.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.1,
  505.       2.11, or OS/2 for Windows, and you installed from
  506.       diskettes, do the following:
  507.  
  508.       1.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL
  509.           directory.  If it is, go to step 2.  If it is
  510.           not, insert Diskette 8 into drive A and
  511.           unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the following
  512.           command:
